## About
We2Friends Coffeehouse opened on June 10, 2026 and is located in the beautifully restored J.B. Mathis General Store, originally constructed and opened in 1950. The store was one of four community stores that supplied goods and necessities to the Union Hill area of Cherokee County, Georgia for over a decade.

Founded by Colonel John Thompson (US Army, Retired) and Lashelle Thompson, We2Friends was born from a dream to revitalize this historic building into a warm, welcoming coffeehouse that reflects the character of the surrounding community. Colonel Thompson served with distinction in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment ("Night Stalkers"), one of the most elite units in the U.S. military.

The coffeehouse features locally roasted coffee, handcrafted espresso drinks, teas, pastries, rotating local artwork, and a curated gift shop with unique, locally-sourced items.

## History
The building was originally constructed in 1950 by J.B. Mathis as a general store serving the Union Hill community in what is now Cherokee County, Georgia. J.B. Mathis was a community leader who also served on the telephone committee that brought Southern Bell phone service to Union Hill. The store was one of four community stores supplying goods and necessities to the area for over a decade.

In 2025-2026, Colonel John Thompson (Ret.) and his wife Lashelle — Mathis's granddaughter — undertook a careful restoration of the historic building, transforming it into We2Friends Coffeehouse. The renovation preserved the building's historic character while creating a warm, modern coffeehouse environment. The project received a historic renovation award and was completed with the help of talented local craftspeople from the Ballground and Cherokee County area.
